Burna Boy Meets US Envoy On Collaboration

Grammy-winning Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy, was on Friday received by the United States Consul General, Brandon Hudspeth, at the US Consulate in Lagos, where both parties discussed strengthening collaboration between the American and Nigerian creative industries.

According to the statement, deliberations centred on practical measures to build partnerships that would create value for creatives, businesses, and audiences in both nations.

The post read, “Consul General Brandon Hudspeth welcomed Grammy-winning superstar/artist Burna Boy to U.S. Consulate General Lagos to discuss expanding collaboration between American and Nigerian creative economies.

“They explored ways to turn the cultural ties between the United States and Nigeria into real economic opportunity through commercial relationships among U.S. and Nigerian studios, labels, and streaming platforms; stronger intellectual property protection; artist and industry exchanges; and investment in creative infrastructure.”

The visit comes just days after Burna Boy held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on how the creative sector can contribute to rebuilding public trust in the security agency.

Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, rose to prominence with ‘Like to Party’, the lead single off his debut album ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013).

Since then, the Afro-fusion star has grown to become one of Africa’s biggest music exports, with a catalogue that includes ‘L.I.F.E’ (2013), ‘On a Spaceship’ (2015), ‘Outside’ (2018), ‘African Giant’ (2019), ‘Twice As Tall’ (2020), ‘Love, Damini’ (2022), ‘I Told Them’ (2023) and ‘No Sign of Weakness’ (2025).

He holds the record for the most Grammy nominations by a Nigerian artiste with 13 nods, and won Best Global Music Album in 2021 for ‘Twice As Tall’.
