Falz Explains Why He Quit Legal Practice
Popular Nigerian rapper and actor Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has revealed why he stepped away from active law practice, pointing to the demands of his music career.
It was gathered that, Falz was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012. He studied law at the University of Reading in the UK and attended the Nigerian Law School in Abuja. He said balancing both law and entertainment became harder as his fame grew.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Behind The Story podcast, the 35-year-old said managing both professions was possible, but maintaining an active legal career alongside music was not.

“Imagine becoming even more famous and showing up in court. It could create distractions and make some clients feel I would be too occupied with music and other engagements. It would have been difficult because my face is already out there,” he said.
The entertainer recalled a moment in court that made him reconsider. According to him, a judge recognized him for his work outside law during a session.
“There was a day in court when I announced my appearance, and the judge asked, ‘Are you not the one doing something on the side?’” Falz recounted.
He noted that at the time, some colleagues knew him as the son of human rights lawyer Femi Falana, while others were starting to know him from entertainment.
