Mr Ibu’s Family Laments Hardship, Says Children Out of School Since Actor’s Death
The family of late Nollywood actor and comedian John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has spoken out about the hardship they have faced since his death.
Speaking during a recent visit by content creator King Mitchy, the family revealed that Mr Ibu’s only daughter and two sons have dropped out of school due to financial constraints.
They added that they have been without electricity and running water for weeks because they cannot afford the bills.

The children’s mother said life has been difficult for the family.
“We fetch water from the well because I have not paid the house rent. They cut our light two months ago. Since then we’ve been like that. Every night we look for where to charge our phones. It’s not easy,” she said.
Mr Ibu’s daughter appealed to Nigerians for assistance, commending her mother’s efforts to keep the family afloat.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She has tried everything to feed us, pay our school fees, and make us happy,” she said. “So Nigerians, if you were in the industry with my dad and you’re seeing us now, come and meet us,” she pleaded.
Fighting back tears, the mother said the children’s school had recently sent a message over outstanding fees.
Meanwhile, it was gathered that, Mr Ibu underwent a leg amputation in November 2023 after an illness that required seven surgeries.
He died in Lagos on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after suffering cardiac arrest.
