Oxlade Questions Nigeria’s Future After Lekki Tragedy

Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oxlade, has added his voice to concerns over the country’s declining state of affairs.

The ‘Away’ crooner, made this known in a post on his official X (formally twitter), recently stating that, activism was never his calling, but he could not ignore the lives lost during the 2020 Lekki tollgate incident.

“Activism was never my calling. But when we stood up to lend our voices the government responded with bullets. We’re still under that same system by the way. Some times I question if there’s really hope for this country,” he stated.

Oxlade is not the only celebrity who has spoken out about the state of the nation in recent months.

Actor Kunle Remi recently decried the worsening economic situation, citing the sharp increase in fuel prices and its impact on businesses and individuals.

Comedian Koffi also accused bloggers of distracting Nigerians from critical national issues such as rising insecurity.

Actress Sunshine Rosman also expressed frustration over the country’s economic hardship and growing insecurity, while questioning Nigerians’ sense of national consciousness.
