Ryanair Passenger Nearly Sucked From Plane Window After Mid-Air Engine Failure
A terrifying mid-air crisis unfolded Friday on a Ryanair flight from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, when a cabin window shattered, nearly sucking a 61-year-old passenger head-first out of the aircraft.
Svetlana Grković recounted the horrific moment half of her husband Ljubisa Karović’s body was pulled outside the plane at high altitude, stating he was hanging out up to his chest for two agonizing minutes.
Grković immediately grabbed her husband’s legs to anchor him, thinking they might die together, before successfully pulling him back inside with the help of two other passengers.
Tracking data reveals the flight had been in the air for only ten minutes when it abruptly plummeted 9,000 feet following a rapid cabin decompression.
Passengers reported hearing an explosion-like sound, which a technical adviser appointed by the family believes was caused by a catastrophic failure of the aircraft’s right engine.
Debris from the engine allegedly broke off and smashed the window next to Karović, though official investigators have yet to confirm this sequence of events.
Fellow passengers noted that Karović’s seatbelt remained fastened, which ultimately helped those on board maintain their grip on him.
Ryanair released a statement confirming that the flight returned to Thessaloniki shortly after take-off because a passenger window “dislodged in flight.”
The airline stated the aircraft landed normally, passengers returned to the terminal, and one passenger received medical assistance on the ground.
However, Grković revealed her husband was left seriously injured, suffering from severe hand trauma and burns, and is currently in shock, unconscious at times, and unable to remember the traumatic event.
