Tinubu Extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s Tenure By Six Months To Consolidate Reforms
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved another six-month extension for Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the extension will help the Customs chief consolidate reforms and see through the National Single Window project while ensuring a smooth handover within the service.
Adeniyi’s previous extension was due to expire on August 1, 2026. The new directive now extends his tenure to February 2027.

While the extension lasts, Adeniyi will work with the Nigeria Customs Service Board to handle key personnel matters. These include promoting qualified officers to Comptroller and retiring officers who have clocked 60 years or completed 35 years of service.
Adeniyi began his Customs career after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University in the late 1980s.
He rose to Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023. President Tinubu appointed him Comptroller-General in June 2023.
“The extension is expected to provide continuity for ongoing reforms and strengthen institutional stability within the Nigeria Customs Service,” Onanuga stated.
