At Last, FG Moves To Regulate Social Media

The Federal Government is eventually moving closer with its controversial bid to regulate social media. 

The government, through the Minister for Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that suspended Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms must register in Nigeria to continue operations. 

This unpopular move was first introduced during President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term, but was greeted with knocks from Nigerians. The government has however seized the opportunity of Twitter’s suspension to accomplish the selfish mission.  

Lai Mohammed, while speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, claimed that the owner of Twitter helped to fund the recent #EndSARS protest and is also allowing the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to use the platform to call for the killing of Nigerian security operatives.

He said Twitter failed to take down Mr Kanu’s tweets despite repeated requests to do so.
