NIJ Emerges HICOMS 2026 School Of Year

Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, has clinched the School of the Year award at the 2026 Higher Institutions Convention of Muslim Students, HICOMS.

The honour was first announced at COHI’s Dinner and Awards Night on Saturday, June 6, 2026.

The Council of Higher Institutions said the night was set aside to reward excellence and impact by campuses and students nationwide.

On Monday, June 29, 2026, the award was officially presented to NIJ management by the Amir of MSSN-NIJ, Yusuf Sodiq, accompanied by the Amirah, Adelaja Shokuroh, and the General Secretary, Oshodi Rofiat.

While receiving the award, the Provost, Mr. Gbenga Adefaye, praised the MSSN-NIJ leadership for their commitment and service.

He stressed the award shows that the students are excelling not just in religious activities, but also in academics and conduct, and that it has brought dignity to NIJ.

The Deputy Provost, Dr. Boyeola Ola, and the Registrar, Mrs. Kalesanwo, were also present at the presentation.

The Amir, in his speech, appreciated management for creating an enabling environment that allowed the 2025/2026 MSSN-NIJ executives to function effectively and urged that the same support be extended to the next administration.

In response, the Provost gave assurance that NIJ will keep supporting all recognised student bodies without bias to religion.

He therefore emphasized that the institution remains committed to building a campus where every society can grow while upholding academic standards and positive engagement.

The presentation wrapped up with photographs as the  MSSN-NIJ team thanked the Provost, Deputy Provost, and Registrar for recognising their efforts and for celebrating the society’s role in projecting the image of NIJ.
